Tutorial on dynamic analysis of the Costas loop

چکیده
This survey is devoted to the dynamic analysis of the Costas loop. In particular the acquisition process is analyzed in great detail. Acquision is most conventiently described by a number of frequency and time parameters such as lock-in range, lock-in time, pull-in range, pull-in time, and hold-in range. While for the classical PLL equations for all these parameters have been derived (many of them are approximations, some even crude approximations), this has not yet been carried out for the Costas loop. It is the aim of this analysis to close this gap. The paper starts with an overview on mathematical and physical models (exact and simplified) of the different variants of the Costas loop, cf. Section 1. In Sections 2–5 equations for the above mentioned key parameters are derived. Finally, the hold-in range of the Costas loop for the case where a lead-lag filter is used for the loop filter is analyzed, cf. Appendix (Section 6).

Time Domain Model for Costas Loop Based QPSK Receiver
A complete Matlab model is made for a millimeter wave wireless communication system including a four-phase Costas loop for carrier recovery and QPSK demodulation. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the dynamic behaviour of the Costas loop and the effects of noise, linearity and bandwidth limitations. The time domain results are compared to the frequency domain transfer function der...
متن کاملDynamic Load Carrying Capacity of Mobile-Base Flexible-Link Manipulators: Feedback Linearization Control Approach
This paper focuses on the effects of closed- control on the calculation of the dynamic load carrying capacity (DLCC) for mobile-base flexible-link manipulators. In previously proposed methods in the literature of DLCC calculation in flexible robots, an open-loop control scheme is assumed, whereas in reality, robot control is achieved via closed loop approaches which could render the calculated ...
متن کاملStudying Dynamic behavior of Distributed Parameter Processes Behavior Based on Dominant Gain Concept and it’s Use in Controlling these Processes
In this paper, distributed parameter process systems behavior is studied in frequency domain. Based on the dominant gain concept that is developed for such studies, a method is presented to control distributed parameter process systems. By using dominant gain concept, the location of open loop zeros, resulted from the time delay parameter in the process model, were changed from the right half p...

متن کاملCovariance Analysis of a vector tracking GPS receiver based on MMSE multiuser Detection
In high dynamic conditions, using vector tracking loops instead of scalar tracking loops in GPS receivers is proved as an efficient method to compensate the performance. The Minimum Mean Squared Error detector as a multiuser detector is applied in the vector tracking loop for more reliability and efficiency. The Kalman filter does the two tasks of tracking and extracting the navigation data aft...
